After the success that was the 'On Tour' to Busselton last year, Perth International Jazz Festival’s exploration of the state continues, taking a selection of Perth's finest jazz artists to the south-west of WA for one-of-a-kind concerts in Margaret River and Mount Barker from 6-7 May.

With an outstanding line-up especially curated to bring some of Perth’s best jazz musicians to some of WA’s most beautiful locations, the tour starts at the Margaret River District Club on Friday 6 May in partnership with Arts Margaret River.

Enjoy a superb line-up of jazz artists including saxophonist Gemma Farrell's original and lauded jazz project, Gemma Farrell Quintet featuring Sam Hadlow (trombone), Dan Garner (guitar), Kate Pass (bass), and Ryan Daunt (drums). The Quintet are releasing their second album ‘The View From The Top’ on 14 May, of which audiences will get a sneak preview.

Jazz vocalist Lucy Iffla will captivate and delight in the Lucy Iffla Quartet with good ol’ tunes spanning folk, jazz, and funk classics. Featuring an outstanding line-up of musicians including Ben Vanderwal on drums, Matthew Gudgeon on guitar, and Alistair Peel on bass, get set for soulful grooves and tear-jerking melodies to close out an amazing evening.

Next stop is a unique concert on Saturday 7 May at Plantagenet Wines, Mount Barker as part of Taste Great Southern. This special event pairs jazz with award-winning crafted wines, dinner hampers and cheese platters with bus transfers available from Albany. Jazz at the Cellar Door stars Lucy Iffla Quartet and Gemma Farrell Quintet before Brass Party get the revelry started with their brassy take on classic dance tunes from the 90’s and 2000’s.

The ‘On Tour’ Series comes off the back of a federal RISE grant for $612k to guarantee delivery of the 2021 and 2022 Perth International Jazz Festivals (PIJF) and the exciting expansion into regional WA.

“The RISE fund after almost 10 years has enabled us to employ staff to take on much of the organisational heavy lifting throughout the year, while also expanding the Perth focused festival in November and take it ‘On Tour’ to WA’s regional south and eventually north too,” says Festival Director Dr Mace Francis.

“We can’t wait to better get to know the south-west and Great Southern communities. The musicians are excited to share their music and each band brings a different aspect of the jazz genre to the stage,” he says.

“We hope to bring world-class jazz to the regions for many years to come – because what goes better together than good times, great jazz, and a glass of locally crafted wine.

“This “On Tour’ in May is just the beginning of our Autumn festival season to complement the spring festival in Perth”.
