Nominees announced for 2018 Performing Arts WA Awards - celebrating excellence and achievement

Performing Arts WA is proud to announce its theatre and dance nominations for the prestigious 2018 Performing Arts WA Awards. This year will see the highest number of awards presented yet, with 23 categories and 111 nominations of outstanding work presented throughout 2018 across categories including best actors, best dancers, newcomers, directors, productions, sound and lighting designs, compositions and costumes.

Multiple Theatre category nominees include actors Julia Hales for You Know We Belong Together, Mackenzie Dunn for Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, and Will O’Mahony for his performances in Hir and Assassins – all Black Swan State Theatre Company productions. The breadth of Perth's independent theatre talent is also represented, with a particularly strong showing from artists and productions supported by The Blue Room Theatre.

In the Dance categories, performers and choreographers involved in the WA Dance Makers Project by Co3 Australia have also received multiple nominations.

“Our objective is to give our professional performing arts community the awards it expects and deserves,” says Monica Main, Chair, Performing Arts WA.

“The talent in the WA professional performing arts sector is phenomenal and it’s important they are recognised and celebrated.

“Last year we included the dance sector in the nomination process in order to build a stronger arts sector and to create an annual event on par with our eastern neighbours,” she said.

With a total of 12 theatre, six dance and five shared design awards, the 2018 Performing Arts WA Awards gala event will be held on Monday 29 April 2019, from 7pm at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia.

Tickets on sale now through the Perth Theatre Trust.
