Margaret River local launches activity book to help you or your mate through the f**ked up first month of a break up.
Following on from its successful launch at Emergence Creative Festival in Margaret River, Fuck off and die – a guide to getting through the f**ked up first month of a break up – is launching in Perth at The Bird on Monday 19 June from 7pm.
Written by Margaret River local Sarah Robinson and illustrated by Mount Lawley’s Jade Foo, the book isn't meant to inspire you or elicit wild meditation regimes, just get you through that first month.
Sarah said some stuff.
"I wrote the book after my shitty break up because I read a bunch of articles telling me to meditate and be wholesome, but I could hardly get through an hour of the day, let alone do a freaking downward dog," she said.
"So I did other stuff that made me feel better straight away; they’re the activities that make up the book."
Sarah finished the book fast when a mate of hers was trying to leave an abusive relationship for the 5th time in 12 months. She figured that if her friend could get through the first month without him, she might not go back. She didn't.
"That first month is especially f**ked, because you miss him, even though you probably know he's not good for you," Sarah said.
"If you need to chain smoke to get through it, do it."
You don't have to get addicted to nicotine to use the book, and Sarah doesn't profess to care about what makes you feel better in the long run. It's all about getting through that first month, then building strength to live the epic life you were meant to.
The book also doubles as a shitty gift.
"I was hoping people might buy it for their friends, instead of flowers that will wither and die like their relationship did," she said.
Each page of the book can be ripped out, so the activities that work for you can be taken to work or wherever you need to go. Because breakdowns don't care if you're in public.
There's also a book of matches on the back, so you can set it on fire once you're done with the exercises.
"Burning shit is a big part of letting go, so long as it's not his possessions and or house," Sarah said.
"He's probably not worth the jail time."
Fuck off & die is available for sale from www.fodbook.com or Diabolik Books, Mt Hawthorn.
Part proceeds of every book sale goes to a shelter in the South West that supports women leaving situations of domestic violence.
